Thomas Frederick Joy

Tom served six years in the United States Nave from June 1956 to June 1962, both active and reserve duty. Following the Navy, he worked at Pacific Telephone and Knudsen Creamery. During this time, he continued his education at East Los Angeles City College and graduated in 1973 with an Associate Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. He joined the California Highway Patrol in 1967 and served for 27 years before retiring in 1995 at the rank of Sergeant. He spent 20 years in the Baldwin Park CHP area and seven years in the Ontario/Rancho Cucamonga CHP area. He also taught Driver Improvement at Bassett evening school.

He is survived by his loving wife Susan, two children: Cathy J. Allan and Thomas F. Joy, Jr., step-daughter Patricia Helffrich and five grandchildren: Austin Allan, Erin Allan Wasson, Summer (KiKi) Joy, Slater Joy and Steven Helffrich, and his great granddaughter, Willow Wasson.

Tom's hobbies included model railroading and serving others through (1) the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church in Irvine where he was an integral part of the food delivery program for families in need and (2) as Commander of the Groves Emergency Response Team and (3) a certified member of the Community Emergency Response Team in the City of Irvine.

Tom will be missed for his quick smile and "eager to serve" attitude.

Tom's life will be celebrated on September 11, 2021, in Ontario. A funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church in Irvine on September 18, 2021. Please call Saddleback Mortuary for details.
