Steven Keiser

August 17, 1945 — February 23, 2020

Steven J. Keiser (DDS) Dr. Steve Keiser passed away on February 23, 2020, after a brief illness. Steve was born on August 17, 1945, in Los Angeles, to Dorothy and Donald Keiser. After spending his youth in Whittier, California, Steve attended Butler University (BS) and Indiana University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. Steve’s passions were the relationships he built with his dental, golf, classic car, and personal families. Steve practiced dentistry in Whittier, Brea, and Orange. He started his Orange practice in 1972 and retired in 2017. His first patient ,45, was still his patient, at 90. He didn’t just “do” dentistry; he loved dentistry. Steve was active in the Orange County Dental Society, California Dental Society, and the downtown Santa Ana redevelopment. Thursday night dinners with his dental peers-The Gastronomic Gnathalogic Club- generated 12 years of education, stories and laughter. He served patients from all walks of life and donated his dental services to special needs adults. Steve’s affair with golf, started in 1985, when he and great friend and colleague Jerry Eidenmuller, began yearly golf trips throughout the US and Canada. Months would be spent planning their golf course itinerary. Steve felt he’d scored a hole-in-one when grandson Vincent joined the school golf team in Temecula. Steve also played tennis, walked Peter’s Canyon, exercised in a gym and practiced yoga. When Steve’s mom found him a “junk-yard” Ford at the age of fourteen, he was hooked on automobiles. As a junior at Whittier High School, Steve and his lifelong friend Dick House spent a year rebuilding a 1930 Studebaker in Dick’s dad’s garage. Steve was as meticulous with his cars as he was with his dentistry. His recent auto restoration works of art include three Porsche 356’s, a 1960 Porsche Cabriolet, a 1954 Chevrolet delivery van, a 1955 Studebaker hot-rod pick-up, a 1950 MGTC, a 1953 Kaiser Manhattan and a 1955 Ford Thunderbird. Dr. Keiser was a mentor to many, and a friend to all. He had a perceptive eye that saw solutions where others found problems. His friends became patients and his patients became friends. Steve Keiser’s patience, integrity and skill changed lives. Steve is survived by his wife, Paula Beard Keiser, daughters Stephanie Keiser Davies (Rob), and Hillary Goebel (Jon), grandchildren Vincent Barrett, Roxie Sue Davies, Harrison Goebel, Steven Goebel, and his sister Helen Keiser (Britt), four brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, five nephews and two nieces. Memorial gifts can be made to the Autism Society of America, San Diego Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
