Seddi Jazayeri

On what would have been her 102nd birthday, Seddigheh Jazayeri, the matriarch of the Jazayeri family, passed away peacefully at her home in Irvine, California, surrounded by the people she loved and who loved her deeply. Born on March 11, 1923, in Ahvaz, Iran, and passing on March 11, 2025, her life of 102 remarkable years was a testament to strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Seddi, known as “Maman” to many, was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her legacy is carried on by her four sons and their wives, Mohammad and Azar, Mahmood and Farah, Mehdi and Mary, and Mehrdad and Nushin, who will forever remember her guiding hand and unconditional love.

Her family expanded to include seven grandchildren, Peter, Houman, Mahan, Darius, Ryan, Neda, and Neema, each of whom held a special place in her heart, and ten great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable delight in her later years. She is also survived by four brothers, Nemat, Hossein, Mohammad Ali, and Majid, and two sisters, Fatima and Vajiheh.

Seddi lived through a century of change, witnessing incredible historical moments and experiencing and adapting to the evolution of the world around her. She approached life with intelligence, grace, and a quiet strength that inspired all who knew her. Starting with minimal formal education, she taught herself many skills, eventually managing her late husband Abdollah’s translation and law office both in Iran and the US. She became a certified notary public to enhance the business. She also participated in and led many social organizations in her thirties and forties, and loved cooking and entertaining large family parties, including a Sunday breakfast that started in 1987 and lasted until the last few weeks of her life.
