Sabino Anthony Huaracha

Survived by his loving wife, Helen, of 57 years, brother Joseph Huaracha, sons Robert and Thomas, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Sabino and Helen raised four sons; in addition, he raised three grandchildren in a home full of love. Sabino was especially proud of his numerous nieces/nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and godchildren, whom he loved unconditionally; he never failed to share his wisdom and humorous tales of a life lived to the fullest.

Sabino was born in Chappell, Nebraska. He graduated High School in 1956 and won the Johnny Statler award for most outstanding football player. He was crowned the Homecoming King and was captain of the football team. He went on to work for Union Pacific with his brother Lupe as a Signal Service Repairman in Idaho. Next, he joined the United States Navy with three of his friends in 1958 and proudly served our Country as a Radar Man until 1962. He loved to share stories about this time period.

After his discharge, he moved to California with his brother Joe, where he was employed at the Long Beach Naval Shipyards as an Electronic Mechanic. He moved onto a Journeyman and completed the Apprentice program as a plumber from 1962-1968. He overcame much discrimination and fought to become the first Mexican American Plumbing Inspector of the Building Department in the City of Santa Ana. After a few years, he was promoted to Chief Plumbing Inspector and retired as Supervisor of Inspections. He never forgot where he came from and made sure to always help the Latino community pass their inspections and assisted in opening their businesses. After 27 years, he retired. When driving through the city of Santa Ana, he would proudly point out many of the buildings and homes he inspected.

He had a love for sports and many of our family gatherings revolved around a sporting event. He began golfing in the early 1970’s and became a Charter Member and founder of P.A.G.A. He also joined the Mexican American Golf Association. During his retirement he joined “The Golf Every Friday Club”. He also loved camping, bowling, making everyone laugh and throwing great parties.
