Ronald Nicholas Meyer

December 25, 1937 — October 21, 2024

Ronald Nicholas Meyer, a proud graduate of Santa Ana High School class of 1956, died of a heart attack in a Las Vegas hospital, October 21, 2024. He was eighty-six. He ran track in high school participating in the 1954 CIF Championship and was a fast running back on the varsity football team.

In 1961, upon good advice from a family friend, he attended Tulsa Welding School and then was invited to attend a specialized welding school in Ohio. He became an expert in welding while touring many of the world’s energy fields: Nigeria, Iran, Libya, Alaska, Canada, California, Arizona, and other southern and mid-western states, and working for major corporations including Williams Brothers, Jacobs Pipeline, Williams International, Fluor, and Bechtel. In 1983, Ron was a founding principal at Southwest Pipeline Construction in Las Vegas where his high-quality standards and values were sought out by government agencies, utility and gas companies, and local businesses.

Because of his expertise, Ron was asked to train journeyman welders at Santa Ana Junior College. He also taught at the local 525 of the Association of Pipefitters and Plumbers, and Southern Nevada Vocational-Technical School.

His amiable disposition and great stories made him a cherished and life-long friend to many. Ron loved to go ballroom and western dancing in the many clubs of Las Vegas with his lady friend Jo Entriken, and he never lost his joy in watching sports, and talking with friends and relatives.

Ron Meyer will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his sister, Josephine Carlisle; daughter, Kimberly (Wayne) Dawson; son, Shane (Erin) Utley; daughter-in-law, Veronica Utley; grandchildren Dylan, Jessica, Carlie, Benjamin, and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sophie Adams (Padias); son, Shawn Utley; and his grandfather and namesake, Nick Meyer, the first public defender in Orange County.

Please join us in celebrating Ron’s life Wednesday morning at 11am, November 6, 2024, at Saddleback Chapel, Tustin, CA, followed by interment at 1pm, Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Orange, CA. Ron Meyer will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through family, friends, and colleagues.
