Robert graduated from Los Angeles College, Junior Seminary of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, High School Department, in 1949. He graduated from Loyola University of Los Angeles (now Loyola Marymount University) in June 1955. At Loyola, Robert was in ROTC. He received his commission from the Air Force at the same time as his graduation. He served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1958 where he often told his kids, "he flew a desk." After his service, he continued with his accounting profession becoming a CPA in 1959. In the 1960s, he opened his own practice and later his eldest son, Chris, joined him in that practice. Robert remained active in their practice through the remainder of his life.
While in college, he married Kary Lee Forster in 1951. They had five children, Chris, Steve, Dennis, Lynn, and John. In 1963, they moved their brood to Orange County from the San Fernando Valley. Robert and Kary divorced in 1968. Robert married Judi Jo Wilcox Girard in 1970. Judi brought to the family, two children, Melanie and Kirk. Together, Robert and Judi had one child, Matt. Judi was also Robert's personal and beloved Secretary who worked alongside him for many years.
The family of ten shared many wonderful family events at Robert and Judi's homes in Tustin, including epic ping-pong games as well as 4th of July celebrations that included firework-filled balsa wood boat competitions. Many a game of Risk, Monopoly, Hearts, Scrabble, and Pro QB were played at the Amy houses. Robert was an avid chess player. He also loved to go to Las Vegas and local casinos, and played in many Blackjack Tournaments. He could recite poems that he memorized in his youth, even in the days prior to his death. He was a Civil War buff and had a library of books on the war that filled many bookshelves. He followed Notre Dame football since 1938. He was an Anaheim Angels season ticket holder for many years. But most of all, Robert was a generous man who helped anyone who needed it without reservation. His generosity extended across generations of his family. Robert is preceded in death by his wife Judi, son Dennis, Sr., and sister Virginia. Robert is survived by his brother, Peter. He is also survived by his children: Chris (Roberta), Steve, Lynn (Bruce), Melanie (Gary, Sr.), Kirk (Faith), John (Shawn), Matt (Beci), and daughter-in-law, Marlia as well as his grandchildren: Krisean (Patrick), Dennis, Jr. (Nicole), Kelli (Raul), Gary, Jr., Melissa, Jeremiah (Brittany), Rachel, Ryan, Nicole, Will, John Ryan, Ben, and Nate, and his great-grandchildren: Denlia, Emmalynn, William, Kaleb, Kameron, and Elijah.
A Memorial Service will be held at Saddleback Chapel, 220 E. Main Street, Tustin, California on March 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. A Reception to follow from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Location to be announced at service.
