Patrice (Patty) Crowder Horton died peacefully at home on Sunday afternoon, October 8. She was born in Los Angeles on December 19, 1931, the only child of Clarice Axness Crowder and Walter Leroy Crowder. The family lived in Santa Barbara, Bakersfield, Tulare and Carpinteria, CA where Walter worked as a pharmacist and store owner for the Rexall Drug Company. After graduation from Carpinteria High School in 1950, Patty attended Pomona College in Claremont where she met Chester Edgar Horton Jr of Santa Ana. The couple was married one week after graduation on campus in the Bridges Hall of Music on June 20, 1954. Patty had a long and dedicated career as an elementary school teacher with the Santa Ana Unified School District. In 1982 she completed a Masters degree at Cal State Fullerton and went on to serve as a reading specialist and classroom teacher at Hoover Elementary School until her retirement. She was a 50-year member of P.E.O. Chapter GJ and a faithful member of Tustin Presbyterian Church. She was a teacher at heart, cherished her family, sought daily strength in her faith, and found joy in service to others. She is survived by her husband, Chester Edgar Horton; her sons, Brian (Tina) of Canyon Lake, CA, Carl of Louisville, KY; David (Paula) of Temecula, CA; and her grandson Ryan (Chailenn) of Keystone, SD. A private burial will be at Fairhaven Memorial Park. Please join the family for a Service of Life and Resurrection at Tustin Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, October 24 at 2:00 pm.
