Miguel Altamirano

May 6, 1929 — October 29, 2019

Miguel Angel Altamirano, 90, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador, he met the love of his life, Carmen, after immigrating to the United States. Together they raised five children. Family was Miguel's most important and valuable gift. He always said that being a father was his greatest achievement and providing a good life for his children gave him an immense sense of pride. Miguel spent over thirty years in the tool and aerospace industries where he was known for his unmatched work ethic. He was an avid walker and a huge tennis follower. He loved cooking and eating in equal measure but was always eager to cook Ecuadorian dishes for his children and grandchildren. His favorite hobby was bargain shopping and he never paid full price. On Wednesdays, he would spend hours perusing the weekly store ads then made a day out visiting different stores for the lowest priced items. As a devout Catholic, he was a good man with a good heart. He looked out for his neighbors, visited shut-in friends and donated to The Red Cross during natural disasters and would never go to bed without praying.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Amelia Altamirano. After the loss of his wife to Cancer in 2001, Miguel made regular donations to the American Cancer Society to honor her.

Miguel is survived by his five children: Gene Altamirano, Mike Altamirano, Cecilia George, Myriam Valley and Carlos Suarez.

Thirteen grandchildren: Autumn Altamirano-Bailey, Emilie Altamirano, Michael Altamirano, Isabella Altamirano, Ashlynn Overholser, Amelia Overholser, Christopher Salinas, Michelle McCoy, Jessica Rodriguez, Patricia Camarena, Carlos G. Suarez, Jonathan Suarez and Mali Suarez as well as nine great-grandchildren and a host of loving In-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family extends our heartfelt thanks to caregivers Leslie, Frank, Adela, Sara, Margarita and Nayeli from the Groves of Tustin. We are profoundly grateful for the kindness, comfort and thoughtful care provided to our father.

Remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends and family. Flowers are welcome. Memorial gifts dedicated in Miguel's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society online, by phone or by mail.
