She was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, CA on September 3, 1963, the fourth of seven siblings.
She studied nursing and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Cal State Fullerton. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1993 and stayed there most of her life. She managed Laurel Manor, a nursing home with 99 beds. She was a cashier at Walmart in Colorado Springs for 18 years, up to and past the point where her illness forced her to stop. She was a delight and a breath of fresh air to everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her devoted mother Rita Hoffman and her father Paul Hoffman.
She is survived by: her Aunt Marilyn, her 5 sisters, Ann, Janice, Christine, Catherine, and Linda, as well as her one brother, Jim, and her beloved son, Drew.
Mary had a heart of gold and a stubborn streak a mile wide. She would give you anything she had always, but did not like to be told what to do. She worked hard for what she had, and did everything in her power to provide a good life for her son. She was deeply spiritual & religious and probably will continue her devout conversations with her father in heaven. She was a strong believer in alternative medicine and she enjoyed country line dancing. She loved every minute she had. Mary laughed, she smiled so radiantly, she sang, she danced even though she was often self-conscious.
Mary wrote every day knowing she was running out of time, it was her only form of communication at the end of her life. She wrote on sticky notes, pads of legal paper, receipts, backs of boxes and whatever else was at hand. She loved her life, her friends (especially her special Colorado confidants) and family. It is a painful loss that she's gone from this world so soon but she well deserves her eternal rewards with her Lord and savior.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Presbyterian Church (13922 Prospect Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92705) on August 12,2023 at 10 AM. Reception will be immediately afterwards. Please RSVP with Drew (andrewdashhoffman@gmail.com).
