James O'Mara

James William O'Mara, 96, of Garden Grove, CA passed on August 28, 2012. "Jim" spent most of his younger years in New Jersey and lived in southern California for the last forty years. Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, he served in World War II with the Coast Guard and Merchant Marines. Jim can be best remembered as a person with great passion, character and he could captivate audiences with his humor and story-telling ability.Jim was the beloved husband of the late Frances O'Mara (nee Drotar) and dedicated father of James O'Mara Jr., who recently predeceased him in September 2011, and Donald O'Mara, who currently resides in Midland Park, NJ. Jim was the devoted grandfather of Kim, Michael and Kristen and great-grandfather to Ava and Mia. Jim was very proud of his Irish heritage and especially fond of his brothers, sisters and cousins from New Jersey and Maryland.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to REED Academy, a school for autistic children, in Oakland, NJ. www.reedacademy.org 25 Potash Road Oakland, NJ 07436.Services will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians in Garden Grove, CA and the burial will be at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.
