Jack H. Barrell

Dr. Jack H. Barrell Jack H. Barrell, age 83, passed away on October 23, 2015 in Santa Ana, California. Born on March 19, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan to Peter H. Barrell and Ethel May Mc Ivor, he attended Detroit public schools. Jack graduated from Wayne State College, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and received his D.D from Hanover College. He met his wife, Ruth Ann at her home church in Dillsboro, Indiana, while a student at Louisville. Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Ann; daughter Cheryl Olson (Conrad); son Jack Barrell, Jr., grandchildren Hannah and David Olson, and his beloved poodle, Johny. He shepherded congregations in both Indiana and California for almost 50 years before retiring to live in Irvine. Jack lived to serve, both the Lord and the community, and found great satisfaction volunteering as a police chaplain in the various towns where his life led him. Travel was a great pleasure to him, and he took special joy in taking his mother to Scotland, her ancestral home. An avid fisherman, Jack's passions also included cars and volunteerism. Jack's kindness, generosity, and good humor enriched scores of lives, and his presence will be sorely missed. Jack faced eternal life with serenity, humor, and joy for, as he wrote to his family, "I enjoyed life, my family and my faith. Rejoice and be glad! And, none of you will hear again that phrase, "Be Careful!" Funeral Information Memorial service will be held Sunday, November 29, 2015.
