Gerald Montgomery

August 22, 1940 — January 8, 2021

On Friday, January 8, 2021, Gerald William (Jerry) Montgomery, loving husband and father of 2 children, 6 grandchildren, passed away at the age of 80.

Jerry was born on August 22, 1940 in Decatur, Illinois and moved to California in 1956. He met Martha Francone, the love of his life, in l957, while attending Alhambra High school. After High School graduation he went into the Army, and served as a Military Police Officer and dog handler for three years.

On August 20, 1960, Jerry and Martha were married and raised two children Vicki Lyn and Darin William. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal State Los Angeles in 1971. He served in law enforcement for 30 plus years. Ten years with the San Marino Police Department, and 21 years as an Investigator with the Orange County District Attorney’s office. He retired as a Senior Investigator in September, 1993.

Jerry was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, an expression he often referred to in between the stories he told and “quirky” comments he would make. He was an avid golfer, and loved to watch his favorite teams the Rams and Angels. He also watched weekly golf tournaments and old Western shows on TV. Jerry had a passion for vintage cars and belonged to three car clubs, where he would proudly exhibit his 1940 Chevy truck, 61 Impala and a 66 El Camino. These memories will always be a blessing.

Jerry is survived by Martha, his wife of 60 years, by his sisters, Paula, Connie and Linda, and by his children Vicki, Darin (Lisa). He will be missed by his grandchildren: Jerod, Lucas (Kaho), Zachary, Gunnar, Alexandra (Jimmy) and Cole. Jerry will also be missed by a very large extended family, including uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
