Elena grew up in San Francisco and attended Convent of the Heart High School. She maintained contact with her high school friends through Facebook and was so grateful for their support. After graduating from UCLA with a BA in History, she decided to make Southern California her home. She always enjoyed the warm weather and sunshine, and never missed the cold and fog of the Bay Area. While at UCLA, she met the love of her life, Gabriel Monico and the two were married at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in San Francisco on June 21, 1992. They welcomed their first son Nicolas Brandon in 2000 and their second son Sean Kyle in 2002.
Elena was a dedicated wife and mother and was very proud of her family. She was her boys’ biggest fan and advocate, guiding them both towards successful college careers. Although she loved her life in Southern California, she was an ardent follower of the San Francisco 49ers football team and Giants baseball team. She knew all the players and their stats, and never missed a televised game. Elena was the family counselor, always willing to lend an ear and offering her nuggets of wisdom whenever needed. She had a kind and generous heart, and she will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Elena is survived by her husband Gabriel, her sons Nic and Sean, her parents Eileen and Carlo, and her sister Carmela.
Her funeral mass will be held on October 18, 10am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, in Irvine, California. Her Vigil will be held on October 17, 5-9pm at Saddleback Chapel in Tustin, California with recitation of the rosary at 7pm.
