Edward John Germann

Germann, Edward John, 94, Veteran of World War II, passed away on May 17, 2016 after a long battle with bladder cancer. Born to John and Irene Germann on April 28, 1922 in Los Angeles, California. He was raised in Santa Barbara, California, the place of his most happy memories of the beautiful ocean, and the visits from his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He attended Santa Barbara High School, class of 1940, where he was on the tennis team, his favorite sport. He returned to Los Angeles to attend Loyola University, then an all mens university, graduating in 1943, Alpha Sigma Nu. Two weeks after his graduation he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in Guadalcanal. After the war, Ed attended Loyola Law School, class of 1950, Delta Theta Phi, member of the California State Bar Association. Ed worked as Chief Legal Advisor for the State of California, Department of Insurance for 35 years. After his retirement from the State, he started a second career with Imperial Premium Finance, working another 20 years. After 55 years of doing what he found to be very gratifying, he retired at age 84. He enjoyed sailing his Geary 18 with the Cabrillo Beach Geary 18 Fleet, and riding his bicycle with the S.F. Valley Bike Club. He was an avid reader, always looking to increase his knowledge about everything. He is survived by Josephine, his devoted and loving wife of 66 1/2 years, his daughters Meg Melahn (Chris), Danell Bleymaier (Gene), Celeste Grover (Scott), Alice Germann, and son Marty Germann, nine grand-children and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Germann, and was predeceased by his brother Rev. Daniel Germann, S.J. Funeral Information Visitation will be held Friday, May 27, 2016 from 5-7pm at Saddleback Chapel, Tustin, CA. Memorial Service to follow immediately at 7pm. Burial will be held Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 12 noon at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, CA.
