Earl Radcliffe Kiernan Earl Radcliffe Kiernan , MD, 87, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2012. Born September 15, 1924 in Pasadena, California, Dr. Kiernan practiced thoracic surgery and pulmonary and internal medicine in Tustin for nearly 50 years. After graduating from USC and USC medical school, Earl enlisted in the Air Force, where he served as a flight surgeon and parachute jumper. He continued to serve in the Reserves for 30 years, and eventually attained the rank of full Colonel. After an internship at LA County Hospital, Earl completed his residency at Meadowbrook Hospital in New York, where he met Florence Danna, an emergency room nurse. They married in 1958 and moved to California where, in addition to his medical practice, he founded Airships International, a company which produced metal-clad airship containers. A man with boundless energy, Earl was an avid car aficionado, and continued to play racquetball well into his 70's. He will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, friend, patriot and physician. Earl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Florence; his son, Christopher; his brother-in-law, Paul Danna; sister-in-law Dortha Jean Kiernan; and his nieces and nephews Kim, Karen, Kari, Patrick, Aleta June, Elizabeth, and Cindy Ann. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Kiernan, and his sister, Colleen Hall. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 am. on Tuesday, August 28 at Saddleback Chapel in Tustin, followed by interment at Miramar National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
