Daniel Foley

October 4, 1925 — February 17, 2018

Daniel Marker Foley of Tustin, Master and Commander of the Foley Clan, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2018, at the age of 92. Dan was born in Jamestown, New York, on October 4, 1925, to James Valentine Foley and Anna Marker Foley. Soon after he was born, the family relocated to sunny Eagle Rock, CA. In 1943 he graduated from Cathedral High School in Los Angeles and qualified for the V-12 Navy College Training Program. After earning his commission, he served on a sub chaser in the Pacific. He eventually reached the rank of Commander in the Naval Reserve. In 1946, Dan returned to civilian life and married his sweetheart, Mary Rohan. In 1947 they had the first of their nine children while he was attending the University of Miami. After graduating with a B.S. in Accounting, Dan became a Special Agent in the IRS Criminal Investigation Division. He was able to obtain a transfer to the LA office, eventually settling in Tustin in 1958. Commander Dan retired from the IRS and the Naval Reserve in the early 70s. After retirement, Dan obtained his CPA license and went into business for himself, specializing in forensic accounting, tax and financial fraud investigations and litigation support. He slowly wound down his business in the early 2000s and retired to spend time with his wife, travel (mainly to Hawaii, Laughlin and Pechanga) and enjoy his family. Dan was a man of integrity, generosity and faith. He would do anything for his family and friends. Rather than say "I love you", he would do something self-sacrificing that proved it. Dan is survived by his devoted wife, Mary, his 9 children, 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family to pass, surviving his parents, James and Anna; his sisters, Mary Donna and Loretta; and his older brother, Thomas. Services will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Irvine. Anchors Aweigh Commander Dan!
