Christopher Ivory

d. January 20, 2021

Christopher John Ivory passed away peacefully and way too soon on January 20, 2021 while surrounded by family. He was the 7th of 9 children born to Andrew and Edith Ivory in Cambria Heights, Queens, New York. Chris is survived by his loving wife Carol, son Brendan, daughter in law Jaime, beloved grandson Chase and his sisters Mary Hickey and Edith Nims. After graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in 1966 Chris enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1967 and was stationed in Norfolk, VA. during the Vietnam War. After the service Chris married his one and only love Carol and was blessed with 50 years of marriage. He earned his BS in Business from the New York Institute of Technology in four years while also working full time. Fatherhood meant the world to him. Chris enjoyed his involvement as Brendan’s soccer coach and was loved by both teammates and parents. He also shared his love of fishing with Brendan, spending time fishing off the pier of Patchogue for baby Snappers as soon as Brendan was old enough to hold a fishing rod. In 1998 Chris and Carol left Long Island, New York and moved to Irvine, CA. to take the position of Director of Operations for Leathercraftsmen West. His staff of 50 employees, from diverse cultural backgrounds, had immense respect for Chris as he compassionately understood, led, and helped his team achieve both their business and personal goals. He treated everyone like a family member. Chris was the ultimate people person, and was highly regarded as the definition of a fair and just man. He strived to treat all he met with utmost respect, and prided himself on being able to relate to all those around him. Chris had a dry, disarming, witty sense of humor that brought smiles to all. Memories of Chris will be cherished by his loved ones, and will be sorely missed at family functions and Harvard Square neighborhood gatherings alike. As a prominent fixture in the neighborhood, Chris enjoyed greeting his neighbors and their dogs each and every day. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Chris’s name to one of the following organizations: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, (stjude.org) American Humane, (americanhumane.org) Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org) Mass at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Irvine, CA. will be held at 10am on February 9, 2021 followed by graveside services at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange. Future plans for the celebration of Chris’s life will be made once it is safe to do so in both California and New York.
