Charles Knowlton Spearman, Jr

A devoted father, joyful grandfather, faithful friend and brother, Charles Knowlton Spearman Junior, 76, of Tustin, California took his last breath on May 10, 2025 and peacefully passed into Heaven.

Charles (Chuck) was born in El Cajon of San Diego County, California on January 31, 1949 to Charles and Dorothy Spearman. He grew up in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles area. He attended Van Nuys High School where he stood out as a varsity athlete in both track and football, graduating in 1967.

After graduation, Chuck entered the United States Navy. He became an Aviation Structural Mechanic Third Class Flight Captain where he served 2 years on the USS Ranger in Vietnam followed by 4 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Shortly after his return from active military service Chuck met the love of his life, Becky Sue Teague, at Van Nuys First Baptist Church. They fell in love almost instantly and were married on Febuary 3, 1973.

As a youngster Chuck began to develop his independent business spirit. From selling handmade holiday candles door-to-door, to running a newspaper route and assembling bicycles, his drive and determination laid the foundation for a lifelong career in business.

For over 40 years, he owned and operated his own rain gutter company, faithfully serving clients throughout Southern California. Through his hard work, Chuck not only provided for his own family but also created steady employment and income for others—something he took great pride in.

A man of many passions, Chuck had a deep love for music, often entertaining friends at the local karaoke scene. He could sing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” without missing a note. He had a keen interest in American history and an amazing recall of events and timelines.

In his later years Chuck enjoyed gardening and morning meetings with his “Liars Club” cronies at Saddleback Mobilodge Club, which he frequently said was “The best place to live in Orange County."

Chuck will be remembered as a friend to everyone, and one who never knew a stranger. He was the kind of man who would offer the shirt off his back without hesitation. His joyful spirit, generosity, and loyalty made him a beloved friend, fun Papa, devoted brother, and cherished uncle. Anyone who knew him knew he was extremely proud of his family, they meant more to him than anything in the world.

Chuck is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Becky Sue; his parents, Charles Sr. and Dorothy; and his daughter-in-law, Heather Spearman.

Chuck is survived by his four children and their spouses: Kristina and Josh Matthews, Charles (Chuck) Spearman lll, Scott and Rachel Spearman, and Christopher and Eileen Spearman. His ten grandchildren: Mason, Nolan, Hayden, Iris, Deven, Zeal, Cedar, Salem, Addison and Courage.

His three siblings: Maureen Smith, Diana Linden, and Sue Reynolds.

Chuck’s legacy of love, laughter, and hard work will be remembered and carried on by those whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family has set up a memorial fund that will go towards purchasing a memorial bench to be placed in his beloved Saddleback Park Mobillodge.
