Bonnie Blanche Compton Hanson
December 11, 1931 – March 19, 2026
Born to Virginia Nell (“Nellie”) Caudill Compton (1904-2000) and Harold Compton (1895-1963), Bonnie was the third of six children: Betty Compton Selberg, Robert Compton, Paula Schneider, Reese Compton, and is survived by her sister Judy Scott.
Bonnie was married to Don Hanson for 56 years. Soon after they were married, they traveled to Australia to work as missionaries, but due to lack of support, they soon returned to the states.
Bonnie and Don were the loving parents of three sons: Robin Dale Hanson [Peggy Jackson], Chat Patrick Hanson [Jeanne], and Jay Bryan Hanson, [Victoria]. Together Don and Bonnie had four grandchildren: Tommy, Andy, Daniel, and Phoebe. Bonnie was also a Great Grandmother to Tommy and Bryanna’s children: Payton and Oliver.
Bonnie was a pastor’s wife, a former teacher, and had a long career as a communications specialist for an international investment firm. In addition to all of those talents, Bonnie was an accomplished author and illustrator. She was a former editor at Scripture Press. Bonnie served for several years as a curriculum writer and product designer for educational publishers. Her stories are published in over 30 “Chicken Soup” books. She taught Creative Writing at Concordia University in Irvine, and Harvest Bible University in Los Angeles. Bonnie often spoke at writer’s conferences and was involved in her writing group for many years.
Bonnie knew no strangers, and had many friends and extended family whom she cherished during her long and productive life.
Bonnie was kind, thoughtful, warm and generous (to a fault). She always had a ready word of encouragement to everyone who had the blessing of knowing her.
